ED3SSB - Hamradio Contest Station

02 octubre 2006

Heating the engines for the next CQWW SSB 2006. We've spent this weekend installing the 4 elements yagi for 20m and the 2 elements for 40m.

Our first approach was to take advantage of the 20m antena location to install in the same boom the elements for 40m (40/20 interlaced) but finally the 40m didn't work properly and we decided to move to another mast.

In the pictures EA3IN, EA3AJW (spiderman), and me installing the antennas using a crane.

Also we've been redesign the antena layout to separate the mult station from run station. Now the run station will have all the monobands and the mult station will use the KT-34A , the 40m dipol and the inverted V's.

We've 4 weeks ahead with rains, winds and another meteo challenges but our goal it's to be ready for the contest as Multi-Single with EA3AJW, EA3IN, EA3QP and EA5DFV .

Comments:

Thanks everybody for their calls, we've fun in this un-tipical M/S two people
effort, all the antenna system worked properly but the propagation condition was
terrible especially in 10m (another station with 0 QSO in 10m) and 15m on Sunday
afternoon (5 QSO's) so 20m Sunday afternoon was the most crowded band never
heard (similar to 15m during Saturday aternoon in CQWW) with station every 0.1
khz.
Good runs in 15m on Saturday and in 20m after sunset on Sunday, also surprised
with the propagation conditions in 160m.

Comments:

Very poor prop. conditions, 15m close on saturday , 10m close all the contest,
20m absolutly crowded.
We are happy with our result on 20m, but we need to improve (as usual) our
skills and antennas in low bands.
Also we could reach a beter score spending all the contest time frame instead of
to close 6 our before the end.

Comments:

Thanks for every body to do this contest something special. Good propagation conditions in 15m, and absolutly crowded 20m and 40m. We had fun if you consider this special M/S station with only two individuals that set up all the station friday afternoon, really tired after a hard week in their respectives jobs. Welcome the new K9AY receiving antenna that helped us in 80m and 160m and also we think that we need to improve our 40m set up (actually a half square + rigid dipol).
Also to do a mention to the single victim of this contest, one of the IC-775 was killed by RF Sunday morning, quickly and old fashion IC-765 took the position to keep in the edge the qso rate.

Comments:

Our first experience as M/S (2 guys), friday afternoon we had a surprise when we
found a lot of antenna and rotor cables cutted, so we spent a lot of time fixing
it and we paid this effort the first night and during the Saturday, because was
necessary to spend more hours sleeping.
The first day we ran with only with one operator so the mult station was off and
the mult/rate drop dramatically but we had nice runs in 10m and 15m with USA.
The second day the whole team (repeat 2 guys) was ready to the battle and the
mult rate improved little bit.
Great conditions all the time till sunday noon when somebody unpluggedd the
propagation from 20m to 10m.
